MARQUIS
Multimodal
Air Quality Information Service For General Public
|
Project duration
24 months (2005 - 2006)
Main objective
Development of the commercial European environmental cross-border information service that provides multilingual user profile-tailored air quality information and put it into service for a number of
customers.
-
Elaboration of the showcase for information services in other sub-domains of the air quality domain as well as in other public information domains. The showcase includes both the business model that demonstrates how a service that offers genuine public sector information can be turned into goods, and the technical model that demonstrates how such an information service can be realized
technically.
-
Providing the city council and province government authorities of the EU member states with facilities to comply with the EU environmental legislation. The global objective translates into a number of operational goals to be achieved by the end of the project.
Project in brief
The main idea of the MARQUIS project is development of demonstrator of the air quality information service presenting current and forecast information on state of air quality at given point of space and time, which is comprehensible for various users regardless their knowledge, education, language and social background
Key accomplishments
Elaboration of the fully operational demonstrator of the air quality information service covering 5 European regions and 8 languages. Development of the text generator and required resources for on -the-fly, at need text generation. Creation of the first at European scale multi-pollutant database.

IETU's role in the implementation of the project
- Surveying of potential users from advanced selected profiles
- Organising of subsystem and securing of reliable up-to-date data delivery including current measurement data, interpolated and forecast data as well as installation local database server
- Development of new modules of the existing SINZAP (System for Identification of Air Pollution
Inflow) including:module for interpolation of air pollutants concentrations at
given, at will selected point, module for forecasting of air pollutants concentrations and AQI andmodule for
justification/ explanation of air pollution state.
- Elaboration of Polish linguistic resources
including:
- Elaboration of Polish linguistic resources for the text generator
- Translation of all MARQUIS homepage texts into Polish
languageDevelopment, assessment and evaluation of the demonstrator
