The overall results of the Zory Project are designed to facilitate further investment decisions for constructing gas liquefaction facilities at abandoned mines in Poland. Beside the administrative reports, the following outputs of the project have been planned:
Additional outcomes of the project will be the receipt of construction and other permits and the development of two research wells. In total, the work products and additional outcomes will provide the tools for making future investment decisions regarding the construction of gas liquefaction facilities at the Zory mine and other abandoned mines in Poland.
The Zory region is very diverse, which affects site development planning. The town of Zory has dense building development and is located in the western part of the area. The remaining area has dense building development located near the main roads. The fugitive methane escaping from the abandoned Zory mine threatens the people who live in this region, which encompasses over 4,000 people.
Further, most of the methane escaping from the Zory mine migrates into the neighboring active Borynia mine. Capturing this gas will largely eliminate a public safety hazard, and employing advanced technology to convert the methane into LNG will provide an environmentally friendly beneficial use for the gas.
