symposium ETTAP 2009 which includes the 17th Transport and Air
Pollution symposium and the 3rd Environment and Transport Symposium
will be held on 2th-4th June 2009 in Toulouse, France. It
will consider all relevant aspects of the impact of transport on air pollution
and on the environment considering both local and global aspects.
It is a pleasure to inform that the first issue of the CIRCLE-MED Newsletter is available on the CIRCLE-MED website www.circle-med.net. You can also download it here. The Newsletter provides information on the CIRCLE ERA-Net Mediterranean group. Upcoming issues published approximately every three months, will try to focus on the progress of activities and particular aspects of impacts and adaptation to climate change in the Mediterranean context.

for "their efforts to build up and disseminate knowledge about man-made
climate change". It is a remarkable testament to the dedication and

Panel's rigorous and comprehensive assessments of climate change research.

The summary and full version of the Third Working Group report related to the mitigation of climate change was published on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) website. The full version of the First Working Group report was released as well as a variety of presentations and other publications about climate changes.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is currently finalizing its Fourth Assessment Report "Climate Change 2007". The reports by the three Working Groups provide a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the current state of knowledge on climate change. Working Group I assesses the scientific aspects of the climate system and climate change. Working Group II assesses the vulnerability of socio-economic and natural systems to climate change, negative and positive consequences of climate change, and options for adapting to it. Working Group III assesses options for limiting greenhouse gas emissions and otherwise mitigating climate change.

AIRCLIM-NET has a status of observer in ERA-NET CIRCLE Programme since 2005. CIRCLE – Climate Impact Research Coordination for a Larger Europe – is a network of research funders sponsored by the EU, which aims to coordinate Europe’s national research programmes on climate change impacts. CIRCLE focuses on assessing climate impacts, vulnerability, monitoring and modeling, and adaptation. The main objectives of the ERA-NET project are: systematic exchange of information and good practices, identification and analysis of common strategic issues, development of joint activities between national or regional Programmes, implementation of joint transnational research activities. |

INFORMATION ON NEW MEMBERS OF “AIRCLIM-NET”
Upon the decision of a General Assembly of “AIRCLIM-NET” Members the following institutions joined the Polish Thematic Network for Problems of Air Pollution and Climate Change: Institute for Land Reclamation and Grassland Farming at Falenty – Wielkopolsko-Pomorski Research Division in Bydgoszcz, Department of Ecology of Waldemar Szafer Institute of Botany at the Polish Academy of Sciences and Space Research Center in Warsaw.
The first meeting of the “AIRCLIM-NET” Steering Committee was held on the 9th of May 2003, in Katowice, at the seat of the Network Co-ordinator.
After a secret voting Dr Józef Pacyna was appointed the Chairman of the Steering Committee and Dr Janina Fudała was elected for the position of the Vice-Chairman.
On the 18th of March 2003 members of the Steering Committee of “AIRCLIM-NET” were elected.
According to the Internal Regulations of the Network, the Steering Committee was appointed by the General Assembly of the Network Members.
“Sixth International Symposium & Exhibition on Environmental Contamination in Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States”, co-organized by the Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas will be held on 1-4 September 2003.

On the 27th of February 2003 the Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas and WS ATKINS Poland organize a seminar: “Granting Integrated Permissions – Problems, Difficulties and Experience”.
The following items of the agenda will be discussed during the seminar: general background and basic aspects of granting integrated permissions, current legal status and developments in the implementation of 96/61/EC (IPPC) Directive in Poland. Practical Polish experience gained during Danish Pilot Program as well as experience from implementation of integrated permissions in Great Britain – precursor of the integrated permission concept will be presented. Experience of Accession Countries will be demonstrated on the basis of the Czech Republic.

On the 17th of September 2002 Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas (IETU) – an initiator and co-ordinator of the Polish Thematic Network for Problems of Air Pollution and Climate Change – AIRCLIM-NET organized a meeting of 21 scientific institutions representing original members of the network.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Janina Fudała.
Among the participants of the meeting was Ms. Jolanta Wolska, a representative of the National Contact Point for the 5th and 6th EU Framework Program and Ms. Izabela Ratman-Kłosińska from a Branch Contact Point for the 5th EU Framework Programme, established at IETU.
Representatives of the network presented scientific and research potential as well as thematic fields of their research work. Special attention was paid to air pollution and climate changes.
During the meeting the following items were discussed: a draft version of internal regulations, agreement concerning participation in the network which should be signed between members of the network and the Co-ordinator as well as network financial sources.
Active participation of the members allowed to define the scope of work of AIRCLIM-NET for the nearest future.
Hermann von Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers HGF (Germany) is looking for Polish partners to join proposals for integrated projects and networks of excellence submitted by German units in the form of Expressions of Interest.
