IETU has two research (monitoring)
stations: one situated within IETU facility in Katowice, the other
located in Brenna, in Silesian Beskid Mountains of Southern Poland.
| The Katowice
Research Station operates within the National Atmospheric
Pollution Monitoring Network which is part of the National
Environmental Monitoring System. The Station belongs to
IETU’s most important implementation achievements. |
 |
 |
Since 1989 the
station conducts regular monitoring of air pollution and
precipitation quality. In 1999 the station was incorporated
into the European Monitoring Network of Air Quality
EUROAIRNET of the European Environmental Agency. |
| The
Brenna Station has been established as a unit of the
integrated environmental monitoring, performed in the
framework of the Geneva Convention on Long-Range
Transboundary Air Pollution. At present, the station is
operated as an experimental facility to conduct studies on
the impact of elevated ozone and UV-B concentrations on the
genetic structure of plant populations. |
 |
 |
Beside
the two mentioned stations, IETU is equipped with an OPSIS
telemetric measurement system that serves to measure gas
concentrations in ambient air and atmospheric pollution
monitoring. The system has been installed in Pszczyna,
Southern Poland, to measure pollution caused by
transportation (e.g.: sulphur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide,
ozone, benzene, toluene, p-xylene and phenol) in the
vicinity of the Katowice - Bielsko-Biała motorway. |
