Dr. Jan
Bartłomiej Skowronek
Graduate from the Academy of Mining and Metallurgy in Cracow. He
specialises in ecoradiology and radiological protection. His
research activity focuses on environmental engineering, labour
protection in mining and ionising radiation protection. This
includes identification of sources and hazards posed by natural
radionuclides in coal-mines and their surroundings and methods for
control and prevention from radiation threats.
He
began his professional career in Copper Research and Design
Laboratories CUPRUM. In 1982-2004 he was the Head of the Laboratory
of Radiometry at the Central Mining Institute. Since May 2004 he has
been the Director of the Institute for Ecology of Industrial Areas
in Katowice.
He
is an author and co-author of new methods and technologies for radon
monitoring and prevention and environmental pollution protection.
In
2003 he received the first prize at the World Exhibition of
Innovation, Research and New Technologies - EUREKA 2003 in Brussels
for construction of a radioactive aerosol meter. He was also awarded
a title “Master of Engineering – Warsaw 2003” by the Chief
Technical Organisation (NOT) and Editorial Office of
“Rzeczpospolita”.
He is a member of the
Nuclear and Radiation Chemistry Committee of the Atomic Energy Board
at the President of National Atomic Energy Agency, Standardisation
Commission no. 246 for Radiological Protection, and Environmental
Protection and Waste Utilisation Committee at the Polish Academy of
Sciences in Katowice.
